The Keppy Rules

Being extremely special, Keppy has a set of rules to live by...well, for others to live by. If these rules are followed, there is peace in the Keppy Kingdom.

Keppy Rule #1 Don't Mess With Keppy's Space.
Wherever Keppy is, that is her space, and don't mess with it. On some days Keppy's space is bigger than on other days. This picture illustrates what happened when Lizzie forgot Keppy Rule #1.

Keppy Rule #2 Don't Mess With Keppy's Food.
Even if Keppy is not right there but there is food in her Krib, don't mess with it.

Keppy Rule #3 Don't Mess With Keppy's Toy.
Similar to Keppy Rule #2. Even if Keppy is not there, it is Keppy's toy and don't mess with it. Keppy does not share.

Keppy Rule #4 Don't Mess With Keppy's Thumbsucking.
This rule combines Keppy Rule #1 with anything that interferes with Keppy's proper thumbsucking.

Other Keppy Wisdom:

Keppy has words and they must be OBEYED. These include words for "pick me up", "I want to go in the other room" and "I want some of your dinner".

Keppy Korollaries:

Korollary A to Keppy Rule #1: Don't mess with Keppy's butt. This applies to nosey boy dogs and anyone trying to take Keppy's temperature.

Korollary B to Keppy Rule #1: Don't mess with Keppy's kiss. If Momma K is bending down to give Keppy a kiss STAY out of the way. It is Keppy's kiss and only hers.

Keppy's Habit

One thing Keppy does that is funny is she does "thumb-sucking" where she grabs the fat part of someone's thumb and sucks on it like she is nursing. I suppose because Keppy never could nurse her mommy due to her cleft she has this need. This gives Keppy calmness and reassurance. Keppy's vet says in all his years of practice he has never seen anything like it. Here is a picture of Keppy sucking on Momma K's wrist at the vet's office. Keppy prefers sucking on the left thumb, although once in a while she will want a right thumb-sucking. When Keppy feels bad she does not want a thumb-sucking, so it is always a good sign when Keppy wants to do this. Sometimes she is very insistent and pulls Momma K's hand with her paw to bring it within reach. Also, poor Momma K if other dogs should come near while Keppy is thumb-sucking. She clamps down on Momma K's thumb as if to say "MY THUMB! Get away you other dogs!".

This leaves dents in Momma K's thumb.

Long Time Coming....

OK OK so Momma K has been very busy and has not updated the Keppy Kronicles as should be done. After all there are many things Keppy needs to say. I was going to tell the story about how Keppy went to the dog show and had her picture made (the Beautiful picture seen here). Friends of Momma K brought Keppy presents and we had a special Keppy Day. Keppy got a pink shirt with the message "I Have Issues" as well as a pink crystal necklace (no collars for Keppy) that has a "Princess" charm. So although Keppy did not get to be a show dog, in many ways she was even more special. It was almost ruined by a mean lady who saw Momma K carrying the Keppy and Momma K proudly showed Mean Lady Keppy's beautiful picture. "Oh I can't believe you spent so much money on that THING"-calling the Keppy a "thing" because of her problems. Momma K said "She is NOT a thing, she is the Princess Keppy Louise" and the mean lady just rolled her eyes and clucked. The Mean Lady had no idea how much fun and love the Keppy brings. Her loss,,,

A Special Baby Gone to Heaven

We are sorry to report that little Riley passed from this life on Sunday 19 October 2008. The tumor near his heart had grown larger than the heart itself, and he was beginning to suffer. His human mommy and daddy held him in their arms as the kind vet sent Riley's spirit back to heaven. We are sure the Polly Wolly Wa Wa Angel was waiting for him and guided him to all the sunshine and love in heaven. Riley's first mommy Ezmy and his daddy Ridley were already waiting for him. Fly on your angel wings Riley!

Special Thoughts Requested For Riley

Riley is a 9 year old Boston that has been diagnosed with a very rare cancer that causes a tumor to grow near his heart called a chemodectoma. There is nothing that can be done for this condition other than to give little Riley medicines to help his heart work better so fluid does not build up in his lungs. Riley is loved so much by his human mommy and daddy that they are very upset that he will have fewer days with them than they had hoped. Please join us and the Polly Wolly Wawa Angel (watch this page in the future for the Polly Wolly story) in wishing Riley many more happy days in the sunshine or chewing his favorite toy at his mommy's feet.

Keppy Goes Shopping

One day it became apparent that Keppy was getting too big for Momma K to carry her about in the kennel cab. It was time to take Keppy shopping to find a harness and leash so Keppy could walk like a big dog! Momma K loaded Keppy in the car where she promptly crawled onto Momma K's lap and perched herself so she could look out the driver's window. This was somewhat less distracting to Momma K than putting Keppy in the carrier and watching her bite the wire door and make chattering sounds to express her annoyance. Afterall, when Keppy has words they must be obeyed.

When they got to the store Momma K put Keppy in the seat of the shopping cart and went to get some dog food before getting Keppy's leash. Keppy sat in the seat and peered around as if to say "Look at me! Princess Keppy has arrived!" People smiled and pointed at the royal Keppy sitting so proudly as Momma K pushed her around.

Momma K found the leash section and was sad to see there were no pretty pink harnesses that would fit Keppy. Keppy definitely preferred pink, but she had grown bigger than Momma K imagined she would, and so would not fit into an XS harness. Momma K thought the green would go well with Keppy's black and white color and they had what looked to be the right size for Keppy. But to be sure Momma K had to try the harness on the Keppy. She took Keppy out of the seat and knelt down with her on the floor. Oh dear....Momma K had not ever used a harness on a dog before and when she unhooked the buckles the harness looked like a spidery mess. Where does Keppy's head go? Where do Keppy's legs go? Momma K tried getting the squirmy Keppy into the harness but Keppy did NOT like it. As Momma K held the harness up to try and figure out which hole Keppy's head went through Keppy darted under the display rack! It was a very wide display rack and Momma K could not reach all the way underneath it! You would think Keppy would not go in a dark place after the file cabinet forest but it must have been better than getting fitted for a harness!

So there is Momma K- laying on the floor on her belly reaching under the display rack. She grabbed the Keppy by a back foot and dragged the squirmy Keppy back into the light. Keppy gave Momma K a look of annoyance. Momma K finally got the harnes on Keppy but Keppy was pouting. She preferred being unshackled. Momma K selected a matching green leash with shiny bling decorations on it. Keppy's eyes brightened at this, and was somewhat appeased.

Now Keppy was outfitted for the big world and ready for new adventures!

Caleb's Surgery Is a Success!

Rabbi Caleb had his surgury for pulmonic stenosis on Friday July 11th. He came through the operation fine and will hopefully lead a normal happy life now. Many people would not have sought treatment for such a serious problem but his mommas love him very very much. He is now on his way home to continue being spoiled and pampered. Thanks to everyone who thought a good thought for this little guy and the wonderful doctors and vet techs who took such good care of him.
